Spin Spoils MacDonald’s Run at Airborne
Eddie MacDonald’ Hancock Electric/Grimm Construction Chevy suffered a disappointing 16th place finish in the ACT Late Model Tour’s Airborne 100 in Plattsburgh New York. The Freddie Peterson owned #17 was making a move to the front when the #9 (Chip Grenier) spun the Rowley, Mass. veteran on a lap 55 restart.

“We started fifth after posting a plus 2 in the heat but the car wouldn’t turn so I lost a number of positions early in the race,” said Eddie Mac. “”Then around lap 40 it got loose and I could finally drive it. I raced the #9 for about ten laps running on the outside and finally got by him without making any contact.”

A caution on lap 54 of the 100 laps on the half-mile oval brought the field back together with MacDonald restarting ninth on the inside saying, “I was running on the inside then the #9 drove in to me on the right rear. He didn’t lift and just kept driving and I just couldn’t hold it and took a wild ride off the track into the dirt off the back stretch. I thought I was going to hit the tire barrier but the car finally stopped and I was able to continue without any damage.”

The spin brought out the caution flag on lap 55 with MacDonald forced to start in the rear of the 28 car field. “It was difficult to make up a lot of ground when we restarted,” said Eddie Mac. “It isn’t easy passing here and we just had too many spots to make up. We didn’t have a car to compete with the top guys but I really thought we could finish in the top ten but restarting in the back after the spin made it impossible. Rollie and I thank car owner Freddie Peterson and our K&N team owner Rob Grimm and a special thanks to Kenny Thompson from Hancock Electric in Quincy, Mass. for being such a great sponsor.”

Eddie Mac and crew chief Rollie LaChance are scheduled to race the ACT Tour’s return to Star Speedway in Epping, N.H. on July 6. The Grimm Racing team will compete in the K&N Pro Series East Series on the “bullring” known as Bowman Gray Stadium on June 1.
